Britannia's Mail began the year with a fabulous performance at the Competition Stallions Show at  Addington, He was much admired, and the audience were delighted when 14 year old Ellie showed him off in the jumping part of the display.

After an incredibly wet start, resulting in many events either cancelled or abandoned, Britannia’s Mail and new 4* rider Libby Seed made an exciting start to their first eventing season together with a super double clear in the Open Intermediate at Tweseldown and then finished 8th at Aston Le Walls before heading to the Badminton Stallion Parade. As usual Marley put on a superb show, jumping pretty well the biggest fences of all the stallions and behaving immaculately.

With only two runs under their belt they had a crack at the British U21 Championships at Houghton Hall. This gave them the important qualification result to go up to 3*. Britannia's Mail was then delighted to head to stud at Tomlinson Equine for a few days which of course he thoroughly enjoyed!

A steady run round Nunney 2* prepared them well for Barbury where another solid performance gave the pair the next part of their 3* qualification. We waited for the hard summer ground to soften up before we ran him again at Gatcombe OI where he again went really well to finish just outside the top 10. Libby and her wonderfully supportive parents, Lesley and Jonathan, then headed up to Yorkshire to achieve a fantastic 5th place in the Advanced at Allerton while Lucinda was helping Ellie at the U18 South of England competition in the pouring rain!

Britannia’s Mail had many compliments from the commentary, spectators and fans that have offspring up North. He obviously enjoyed and found the bigger challenges easy, and demonstrated his superb fitness, soundness and developing partnership with Libby.

A last minute plan to fit in one more run, as Britannia's Mail was feeling so well, sadly didn’t work due to being one of the many horses who were confused by the low sun at the end of the day at Bicton CIC** - unseating poor Libby when he misread a skinny roll top going into the trees. Britannia's Mail, being so clever, stayed on his feet but poor Libby was surprised to land on the floor and see Britannia's Mail quietly trotting away, jumping over the string beautifully to head for home!  Such bad luck, having started the competition on a fabulous dressage score of 31.6 and been well placed to finish in the top four had he gone clear XC.

Britannia’s Mail has finished the season looking amazing, fit and sound. Lucinda is enjoying training him and riding him at home, playing with his dressage and enjoying some rather blustery, wet hacks on the plain. With the Event season finished Ellie Fredericks has taken on the jumping part of his training, which is really good fun for both of them. They have recently qualified for the schools show jumping championships at Hickstead next August.

Libby Seed will start more serious training with him early next year and will be aiming for the 3* Nations Cups - hopefully with the British team - as well as two long-format 4* events (original 3* level).

After seven seasons eventing, Britannia's Mail continues to prove himself to be a 100% sound, tough, genuine and confident competition horse, with his relaxed, affectionate, honest and kind temperament coming through in his young stock. Britannia’s Mail has excellent fertility rates, having covered over 100 mares between 2013-2018, and we have seen some lovely Britannia’s Mail foals on the ground during 2018. Three of which are based at Rosegarth which is lovely.

We are pleased to have been able to make him available for fresh and chilled semen, as well as frozen, during the season. And we are excited about seeing some of his 4 and 5 year old offspring out competing in 2019.

Early next year Britannia’s Mail will yet again be on display at the Competition Stallions Show at Addington Manor on 16th February, and will be available for fresh, chilled and frozen semen during the season, standing at Tomlinson Equine, Gloucestershire.

Had a really busy day at the NSEA schools qualifier at WWEC on Saturday with Ellie riding 4 horses in 6 classes around 5 different courses. Started with Chris Emmett’s lovely grey mare Elzy jumping a fast clear to help the Dauntsey’s team to finish 3rd from 20 teams in the 90cm class. Next was the 100m where Shrimp, who was very happy to be outside, jumped a super clear giving their team a place at the Hickstead Final in August.

Then it was Marleys turn in the biggest SJ class of the day, the 110. They both flew around beautifully- Marley happily taking charge- but just rolled one pole missing out on a place.

Then it was inside for the busy arena eventing where tight turns and an optimum time would win the class. Bridget Hall’s Moley was foot perfect finishing a super 6th from 72 starters in the 95cm and then went a lot quicker in the last class on the day but two poles pushed him down the order.

Marley had been a total gentleman and waited patiently for his 2nd round and had a great time bringing Ellie safely home over a mixture of 17 jumps tipping just one rail.

Thank you to Karen Smith [Shrimp], Bridget and Chris and the Marley syndicate for their lovely horses. Well done Ellie for remembering 5 different courses [and her stickability!], Alex for helping me all day and Jess, Oceane and Libby for sorting everything out at Rosegarth.

Horses all great thanks to Pure Feed, Devacoux, HRP, Free Jump and Gatehouse.

Clever Marley!

Britannia's Mail proved himself on Friday to be a true advanced event stallion finishing with a superb clear round cross country at Aston Le Walls, with just one rail around an influential showjumping track and a very good Dressage performance at his first advanced event with Rebecca Howard, finishing 14th.

Thank you to Jess for looking after Marley so well at home/ at the events, Rebecca for riding so fantastically well and to Kelly and Danielle for their support.

It's very special for everyone that knew Headley Britannia to see Britannia's Mail progressing towards the top and doing so well and making it look easy.

Exciting times ahead for all those with Marley babies, already in excess of 60+ off spring already born and many in the making!

What an amazing feeling to arrive at an event having had no rain for weeks and be presented with such a beautiful course, with fantastic ground, the work that Nigel Taylor and his team had done gave a fantastic run to the first of five days of competition at Aston le Walls.

Britannia’s Mail and Little Britannia’s times were quite late in the day so they didn’t run until 630 pm. It has been six weeks since both horses did their practice run at Portman and Rebecca Howard and I just wanted to give both horses a steady run around at their first intermediate of the season together.

Britannia’s Mail did a super test and jumped a cracking SJ round and then went around the XC foot perfect, Little Britannia was also foot perfect in the XC but unfortunately had two rails down in the SJ.

We now have a busy weekend ahead with Ellie representing Dauntseys at the inter schools event at Stonar on both days with Moreland Oscar and Joubert, while new working pupil Anna Wilson takes Simon Halls Ordnance Hill to a Larkhill event.

In other news In Fashion Too (Flicka) has headed back to West Kington and Beaufort with her new foal to do some embryo transfers for a client. Flicka is of course by Britannia’s Mail and Prada and recently had a beautiful foal by Oslo who has been named Pure Britannia, a client was so impressed they now want their own foal out of Flicka.

Britannia's Mail (Marley) is lying 4th after the intermediate championship dressage scoring 29.7 at Gatcombe, two penalties behind the leader.

Lucinda was delighted at Marley's first attempt at an advanced test. He was focused, obedient and enjoyed his applause after his super test. Thanks to Jade and Jess for Marley's super turn out. Thank you also to our amazing sponsors.

It was fantastic to have one of our owners from the Brit Legacy Elite Syndicate join us for the day. We're back tomorrow for the show jumping at 1 o'clock.
